Olive Tree Cooking Class
When I was growing up I always loved to bake. My mom would send me over to our family friend’s house, who specialized in cheesecake making, and I would spend the afternoon baking breads, brownies, and various baked goods with her. I always wanted to be a baker but I my love for babies got to me and I decided to pursue a career in neonatal nursing instead. The great thing about nursing is I can still fuel my passion for baking on the side and I currently run a small sugar cookie business for family and friends. I enjoy going to classes to learn new baking skills and I knew the macaron making class at Olive Tree would be right up my alley.
For those of you unfamiliar with Olive Tree, it is a locally owned Kansas City based company that specializes in fresh olive oils and balsamic vinegars, gourmet foods, and cooking classes. If you look at their class calendar there is a large variety of classes and they range from cinnamon roll making, to pasta making, and even floral arrangement. Since they offer a multitude of classes it is easy to find one that fits your interest. You can check out the class calendar here! ( I really have my eye on the cinnamon roll class!!)
As mentioned, I decided on the macaron making class to fit my love for baking. During this three hour long course we first learned how to make a macaron. Self-taught baker JC Gregg (you might recognize his name from The great american baking show!!) walked us through the steps and gave us all his tips and tricks. Afterward learning all the steps, we got to put our own skills to the test by making a batch of our own. Let’s just say Macarons are way harder to make then I ever thought. Everything, seriously everything, has to be just right.
This class was a hand-on class but a large variety of the classes at Olive Tree allow you to sit back, watch the chef, learn new tips and techniques, and eat what they have prepared! A great part of attending a class with Olive Tree is that you get a 10% off discount anything you buy from their store. I left with the cutest, hand painted Kansas City tea towel made by Painted Petunias.
All in all, we had a really enjoyable time. I am really excited to attend more classes in the future and bring all my friends along. It would be the perfect girls night out, holiday gift, or date night! Thanks to Olive Tree for offering such a unique activity!
